Agnolo Bronzino

AGNOLO BRONZINO

Agnolo di Cosimo, better known as Bronzino, was one of the Italian painters from Florence. His paintings belong to the artistic movement of Mannerism. Bronzino's most important paintings are allegorical themes, the most famous of which is "Venus, Cupid, Folly and Time." In addition, Bronzino was skilled in making portraits, as well as painting religious scenes. In the second period of his life, he was a painter in the court of the Grand Duke of Tuscany, Cosimo I de’ Medici. The curiosity related to this artist is the symbolism that lies beneath his sobriquet, Bronzino. Presumably, it referred to his reddish hair or relatively dark skin color.
