Albert Pinkham Ryder - Canvas Prints

Albert Pinkham Ryder - Canvas Prints

American Romantic painter Albert Pinkham Ryder is best known for his poetic allegorical works and seascapes. His style is often called a mix between tonalism and modernism because his use of color was reserved, but he used it in a unique way to accentuate forms. His works typically portrayed humanity through supernatural forces. Born in Massachusetts, Ryder’s basic education did not continue after grammar school. He started his artistic training in New York under William E. Marshall, who was a former student of French painter Thomas Couture. He would continue to develop his artistic skills at the National Academy of Design and had his first exhibit at the Society of American Artists, of which he also became a member. Ryder became famous for his turbulent marine scenes and images from the opera and literature, which included the bible. Ryder was a perfectionist, forcing him to rework his paintings thus leaving behind a small collection of works that are badly deteriorated due to excessive media.
