ANDREAS SCHELFHOUT
Andreas Schelfhout was a famous Dutch painter from The Hague during the Romantic movement. He was skilled in etching and lithography but was well known for his landscape “en plein air” paintings that depict Dutch winter scenes and icy canals with skaters, such as the painting “Frozen Waterway” and “Winter Landscape with Horses on the Ice.” Schelfhout was a member of the esteemed Pulchri Studio, in addition to having his own workshop. It is said that his death in 1870 marked the end of the Romantic period in Holland.
