BANKSY - Canvas Prints
This controversial street artist rose to infamy during the late 90’s from the underground Bristol scene. He is known for provocative – and often political – stenciled pieces that are applied to public spaces, like a shop wall or a garage gate. To date, Banksy remains anonymous, which allows art auctioneers to sell his pubic pieces to the highest bidder, who ultimately becomes responsible for its removal. In addition to his collection of dark humor pieces and politically-charged art, Banksy also directed a documentary called Exit Through the Gift Shop, which examines the relationship between street art and conventional art. His anonymity largely attributes to the alluring mystery of his art, which many art lovers find attractive. Banksy has been described as a run-of-the-mill young American guy but has also been speculated to be a team of seven artists. None can say for sure!
