CHARLES WOODBURY - Canvas Prints

Charles Woodbury was an American painter from Lynn, Massachusetts. He was a member of the Lynn Beach Painters, as well as the youngest member of the Boston Art Club, joining at just 19 years old. After graduating from MIT, Woodbury spent his time traveling along the New England coast and up to Novia Scotia to paint and sketch beach scenes. Woodbury’s artistic mantra was to “paint in verbs, not nouns,” which is an unmistakable trait of his paintings. His heavy and deliberate brush strokes capture the movement of the sea just perfectly. In 1928, Woodbury, along with colleague Gertrude Fiske, founded the famous Ogunquit Art Association. This school continued to thrive even after Woodbury’s death in 1940.
