DANIEL RIDGWAY KNIGHT - Canvas Prints
Daniel Ridgway Knight was an American painter from Chambersburg, Pennsylvania. He resided in Paris where he was a student at the École des Beaux-Arts and studied under Gleyre, a famous Romantic painter. Knight mostly painted peasant women working outdoors, set against idyllic French landscapes. He gained artistic recognition at the Paris Salon in 1882 with his oil on canvas entitled “Un Deuil.” Knight would go on to receive several monumental awards for his art, including the silver medal and Cross of the Legion of Honor, and the gold medal of honor from the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts in Philadelphia. Interestingly, Knight’s son, Louis, would go on to become a successful landscape painter.
