El Greco - Canvas Prints

El Greco - Canvas Prints

Demonikos Theotokopoulos, or most widely known as El Greco, was a painter, sculptor, and architect of the Spanish Renaissance. El Greco’s faith ran deep – his works showed a deep connection to God. He was largely inspired by the artistic works that were produced from the Renaissances in Italy and France. His characteristic style features elongated figures that are cold, eerie, and bluish in color. An intense religious atmosphere also surrounds many of his works. The Assumption of the Virgin, which now hands at the Art Institute of Chicago, is his biggest and best work. Although El Greco painted many portraits in his lifetime, as well as altar compositions which led to his work as an architect. The strangeness of his art has sparked theories of his insanity or astigmatism.
