Fernand Leger - Canvas Prints

FERNAND LEGER - Canvas Prints

Fernand Leger was a French artist from Normandy. His early artworks belonged to the “Tubism” movement, a term coined by Leger to emphasize the cylindrical shapes he painted, rather than the traditional Cubist forms of the time. Leger was not only a painter, but he was also a sculptor and a veteran of World War I: both influenced his artistic style in many ways. He was inspired by the artillery used by soldiers during his time in the war, and many of his works abstractly accentuate the tubular elements of those weapons. Leger was one of the forerunners of the Pop Art movement, thanks to his Tubist style, use of heavy contrast, and bold colorings in his works. Some of his noteworthy pieces include “Soldier with a Pipe,” “Three Women,” and “Contrast of Forms.”
