Fernand Toussaint was a Belgian painter from Brussels. His works belong to the Impressionist and Art Nouveau movements. He attended the Académie Royale des Beaux-Arts at an early age and later moved to Paris to continue his artistic studies. Toussaint often painted urban landscapes, flowers, and still lifes, but was most recognized for his paintings of young women in soft lighting and various poses. These works often possessed a somewhat ethereal quality to them, highlighted by delicate brush work. Art critics of the time would call Toussaint’s work “peaceful and intimate.”
