Ford Madox Brown - Canvas Prints

FORD MADOX BROWN - Canvas Prints

Ford Madox Brown was a British artist born in Northern France. He was a Romanticist painter focused on historical and moral subject matter. He had an interest in social issues and often integrated these themes into his paintings. For example, his most impactful painting entitled “Work” depicts laborers from all social classes digging up and destroying a central point in the city’s roadway. This work was meant to convey the disruption that arises when social classes are grossly imbalanced, as well as provide a voice for the lower class. Brown is also known for the paintings “The Last of England,” and “Jesus Washing Peter’s Feet.” His final works, The Manchester Murals, are 12 murals that portray the history of Manchester, England. The murals took 6 years to perfect, and Brown would be 72 years old at the time of their completion.
