Francisco De Goya - Canvas Prints

Francisco De Goya - Canvas Prints

Sometimes called the father of modern art, Spanish artist Francisco de Goya is best known for his royal portraits. In addition to his commissioned portraits of the nobility, he created works that criticized the social and political problems of his era. He began his art studies as a teenager and spent time in Rome to advance his skills. Goya learned by imitation. He copied the works of great masters, eventually developing enormous talent. Goya became the official appointed painter to the royal court. He produced mainly portraits for the court, but also dabbled in sceneries and other subjects. He continued to rise in status, receiving admission into the Royal Academy of San Fernando the following year. As years passed, the political climate became so tense that Goya willingly went into exile. Despite his poor health, Goya knew he would be safer outside of Spain. Goya moved to France where he spent the remainder of his life. He continued to make art, some of his work featuring portraits of friends also living in exile.
