Frank Dicksee was a British artist from London. He was a Romanticist painter, inspired by historical themes and events, as well as scenes from classic literature. Dicksee is most popular for his portraits of fashionable women in elegant dresswear. One of his historical paintings, “The Funeral of a Viking,” was praised by Victorian critics for its striking and dramatic depiction of a sacred ritual. Dicksee was knighted and named to the Royal Victorian Order in 1925.
