Frederic Edwin Church was an American artist from Hartford, Connecticut. He was a Romanticist painter and famous for his large, panoramic landscapes. He was one of the most influential members of the Hudson River School, and many of his works depict breathtaking, dramatic sunsets, waterfalls, and mountains. Church’s use of light and detail helped to enhance these scenes. Some key examples of Church’s work include “The Heart of the Andes,” “Niagara,” and “Cotopaxi.”
