Heinrich Campendonk

HEINRICH CAMPENDONK

Heinrich Campendonk was a German painter and graphic designer from Krefeld. He was a Modernist and Expressionist artist, with a focus on decorative art and stained glass. His paintings exhibit rich colors and simple printmaking techniques, as well as a mixed palette of warm and cool tones. “Man with Flower” and “In the Forest” are vibrant examples of Campendonk’s painting style. When the Nazis came to power in 1933, Campendonk and other Modernist artists were labeled as “degenerate artists” and prohibited from showing their works. Campendonk settled in the Netherlands and lived there creating art until his death in 1957.
