Henry Fuseli

HENRY FUSELI

Henry Fuseli was a Swiss painter and draughtsman from Zürich. His works belong to the Romanticism movement. Fuseli was inspired by somber themes, like horror, death, and the supernatural. His painting “Nightmare” was noted for its dark undertones of black magic and sexuality, as well as its unique use of light and shadow. Fuseli also created works for Alderman John Boydell’s Shakespeare gallery with his own eerie twist, such as “Lady Macbeth Seizing the Daggers” and “Romeo stabs Paris at the bier of Juliet.” Other standout works from Fuseli include “The Death of Achilles” and “The Night-Hag visiting the Lapland Witches.”
