Jean-Antoine Watteau - Canvas Prints

JEAN-ANTOINE WATTEAU - Canvas Prints

Jean-Antoine Watteau was a French artist born in Northern France. He was a painter and draughtsman whose works belonged to the Rococo movement. Watteau was inspired by scenes from Italian comedy plays, as well as ballet dancers on stage, and other theatrical themes. Among his most prominent paintings are “Dance,” “French Comedians,” and “Pilgrimage to Cythera.” Watteau is also credited with the invention of the “fêtes galantes” genre: a genre that depicts euphoric and idealized atmospheres and theatrical elements.
