Joaquin Sorolla Bastida - Canvas Prints

Joaquin Sorolla y Bastida - Canvas Prints

Joaquin Sorolla y Bastida was a Spanish painter whose style was a personalized variant of Impressionism. His impressionistic style fused with narrative and anecdotal themes brought him great recognition. He is primarily known for depicting landscapes featuring open air, sunlit water, and the sunny seacoast of Valencia. He also had monumental works of social and historical themes. Sorolla was born to a poor married couple and orphaned at 2. His early artistic talent granted him admittance to the Academy of San Carlos in Valencia at 15. Further studies in Rome and Paris solidified his prominent artistry. Otra Margarita (“Another Margarita”) was his earliest success. He gained massive Western success with his debut solo exhibition at the Hispanic Society in New York. He was commissioned to paint President William Howard Taft! Returning to Spain, he bought a beach house on the Mediterranean shore and spent the rest of his life dazzled and inspired by the waters of his new home.
