Johann Georg de Hamilton was a German painter from Munich, but he gained artistic recognition in Vienna. He came from a family of artists and inherited his passion for painting from his father, James de Hamilton; a trained painter and teacher. The main motifs in Hamilton’s paintings are game animals and hunting scenes. He often painted German high society with their horses, sometimes portraying the horses in motion or in a riding scene. “Stag Hunt” is considered Hamilton’s greatest masterpiece.
