John Ferneley - Canvas Prints

John Ferneley - Canvas Prints

English painter John E. Ferneley specialized in depicting sporting horses and hunting scenes, making him one of the greatest British equine artists, second only to George Stubbs. When he came of age, Ferneley moved to London to study under Benjamin Marshall, a sporting artist, and to join the Royal Academy School, where he also exhibited many works. He built a studio and a house in Melton Mowbray. Ferneley’s area of expertise attracted many buyers, as hunting and horseracing was popular during his time. He would also receive commissions during his travels, which earned him steady income as he was basically always on duty. Ferneley fathered six children with his first wife, three of whom became painters.
