JOHN MARTIN
John Martin was a British artist from Haydon Bridge. He was a Romantic painter, illustrator, and engraver. Martin was acknowledged for the fantastical subjects and compositions of his paintings. He found inspiration in religious themes and symbols, which he portrayed within his monumental landscapes. Martin’s most important artworks are "Plains of Heaven,” "Great Day of His Wrath,” "Destruction of Tire," and "Manfred and the Alpine Witch.” He was a staunch believer in Old Testament teachings and used his artworks to reflect and illustrate these beliefs.
