John Trumbull - Canvas Prints

JOHN TRUMBULL - Canvas Prints

John Trumbull was an American artist from Lebanon, Connecticut. He was a Neoclassism painter with a focus on painting historical events. Trumbull was a soldier in the American Revolutionary War and served as the second aide-de-camp, or second officer, to General George Washington. His paintings depict accurate war scenes, including “The Death of General Warren at the Battle of Bunker Hill” and “Surrender of Lord Cornwallace.” Perhaps his most celebrated painting is “The Declaration of Independence,” which depicts the Second Continental Congress presenting the draft of the Declaration of Independence to Congress. In 1976, the painting was used on the reverse of the two-dollar bill in the United States and the currency is still in circulation today.
