Jonas Lie

JONAS LIE

Jonas Lie was a Norwegian-American painter and teacher. His works belong to the Expressionism movement. Lie primarily painted landscapes and was inspired by water and maritime scenes. He was best known for his paintings of the New England coasts, featuring boats, bridges, cityscapes, and picturesque harbors. "View of the Seine,” "Path of Gold," and "Old Ships Draw to Home Again" are some of his most prominent artworks. Interestingly, Lie traveled to Panama when the Panama Canal was being built to directly paint the construction process. The paintings he made on that occasion brought him great social and artistic recognition.
