JUSEPE DE RIBERA
Jusepe de Ribera, also known as Lo Spagnoletto, was a Spanish artist from Valencia. His works belong to the Baroque movement, emphasizing bold colors and dramatic atmospheric elements. Influenced by the great painter Caravaggio, Ribera became a skilled painter and printmaker. He found inspiration in religious themes and biblical figures. A trademark of Ribera's figures is their upwards view, an allusion to Man looking to Christ for guidance, light, and faith. "St. Bruno, the Carthusian,” "St. Francis of Assisi," as well as "Martyrdom of Saint Lawrence" are some of Ribera's most prominent paintings.
