Lionel-Noel Royer was a French artist from Northwestern France. He was an Academic painter and specialized in portraiture. Royer was also interested in historical events and figures. He created a series of paintings depicting scenes from the life of Joan of Arc, which combined his skills in portraiture with detailed genre-painting. "Auguste Au Tombeau D'Alexandre,” "Vercingetorix Throws Down His Arms at the Feet of Julius Caesar,” "Ulysse Et Télémaque," and "The Muses Garden" are other examples of Royer’s prolific works.
