MARK CATESBY - Canvas Prints
Mark Catesby was an English wildlife artist and naturalist from Essex. As a naturalist, he studied the flora and fauna of the new world and published a book named "Natural History of Carolina, Florida, and the Bahama Islands.” Catesby found inspiration in painting and describing plants, animals, reptiles, and insects that he found on his travels. "Laughing Gull,” "Coach-Whip Snake," and "Viper-mouth" are some of his hand-colored engravings on laid paper. Interestingly, the Natural History of Catesby includes more than 200 plates of birds, reptiles, amphibians, fish, insects, mammals, as well as plants, and it is the first written report that recognizes the flora and fauna of North America.
