PAUL RANSON - Canvas Prints

French painter and writer Paul Ranson was the creative leader of a group called Nabis. This group was comprised of post-impressionist avant-garde artists who spearheaded fine and graphic arts in France in the 1890s. Meetings were held in his studio every Saturday. He was the son of a successful politician who had no problem having his son pursue art, so that is exactly what he did. He studied art at two colleges: Ecoles des Arts Decoratifs and Academie Julian. He eventually settled down and, having had developed a unique art style, founded the Nabis group and the school they would teach their ideas and techniques from: Academie Ranson. When Ranson died, his wife ran the academy.
