Rosso Fiorentino - Canvas Prints

Rosso Fiorentino - Canvas Prints

Giovanni Battista di Jacopo, better known as Rosso Fiorentino, was an Italian Mannerist painter who specialized in oil and fresco. Rosso trained at a studio with Andrea del Sarto and Jacopo da Pantormo, both of whom were his mentors and greatly influenced him. In no time at all, Rosso became extremely skilled with his media. Rosso spent a year painting the fresco Assumption, found in the Annunziata, in Florence. He was also commissioned to paint an altarpiece, Virgin and Child Enthroned with Four Saints, but when its patrons saw its devilish depictions of saints, they rejected it. Rosso moved to Rome where he was exposed to works by Michelangelo and Raphael, which significantly influenced him. He eventually moved to France to work for Fancis I, earning a home and a good salary. He remained in Francis I’s royal service until his death.
