SOPHIE GENGEMBRE
Sophie Gengembre French-British artist from Paris. She was a Romantic painter and lithographer who specialized in genre-painting. Her works mostly depict young children and women. Gengembre was also known for her soft, ethereal portrayal of subjects in her portraiture. Many of her paintings are set against rural landscapes, and she created many artworks detailing working people in fields and forests. Perhaps Gengembre’s most known works are the paintings "Song of the Lark,” "Shepherd Piper," and "Wait for Me.” In addition, her painting “No Walk Today” was purchased for over £1 million by Sotheby’s, London, in 2008.
