THOMAS COLE - Canvas Prints
Thomas Cole was an American painter born in Lancashire. He was an influential Romanticism painter and founder of the Hudson River School. Cole specialized in landscape painting, and is known for his dramatic, idealized depictions of the American wilderness. In his later years, Cole aspired to include literary and religious narratives within his paintings: “Oxbow,” “Titan’s Goblet,” and “Course of Empire” are essential works from this time. Cole was also fascinated with Italian history and imagery. He traveled to Rome, Naples, and Florence to sketch the ancient architectural ruins, as well as Mount Etna.
