Thomas Moran was an American artist born in Lancashire. He was a Romanticism landscape painter and was a member of the Hudson River School. Moran was an accomplished illustrator and noted colorist, which aided in his representation of the American wilderness. “The Golden Hour,” “Sunset at Sea,” “Yellowstone Canyon,” and “Grand Canyon of Yellowstone” are all exceptional examples of Moran’s attention to detail and use of vivid color. Moran is sometimes referred to as a Rocky Mountain School painter, due to many of his landscape works portraying Western locations.
