WILLIAM MORRIS
William Morris was a British artist from Essex. He was a Pre-Raphaelite painter and textile designer. Morris was influenced by urban and natural landscapes, as well as medieval romantic themes. He often emphasized the importance of handmade items in the time of Industrial Revolution, and was an activist for textile workers in dehumanizing, dangerous conditions. Morris’s textile design “Snakeshead” and “Acanthus” wallpaper are some of his better-known designs. Later in his career, Morris would shift his talents to architecture. He was the co-designer of the “Red House,” which featured exterior and interior Neo-gothic elements.
