EMANUEL LEUTZE - Canvas Prints
Emanuel Gottlieb Leutze was a German-American painter. He was born in Germany and came to the United States in 1825. He began drawing and selling his works at a young age and was briefly enrolled in the Düsseldorf School of Painting as a young adult. Leutze was a Romantic painter that set his artistic focus on historical subject matter. He was inspired by the true events of war and the lives of influential political reformers. In 1850, he had completed his most famous painting entitled “Washington Crossing the Delaware,” which is still highly regarded in the art world, and in pop culture today. In fact, the first version of this painting was damaged in a studio fire. Leutze was able to restore the painting, however, it was ultimately destroyed in a bombing raid during World War II. A full-scale replica of the painting can still be seen at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City.
