FRANCIS TOWNE - Canvas Prints
Francis Towne was a British landscape painter from Isleworth. He specialized in landscape paintings, using mostly traditional watercolors and tinted drawing. He studied painting under court portraitist, John Shackleton, but opted to focus on creating landscapes instead of portraits. While traveling abroad in Rome, Towne would paint everything around him. His most notable works are his landscapes of ancient Rome, where he focused on depicting ancient ruins. Towne was also inspired by the landscape of Tivoli, as can be seen in the painting “Villa Adriana,” and “The Cascades of Tivoli with the Town Above.”
